Join our effort to have NCDOT fix Flooding on PLoof Road.

Over the past 20 years, rapid growth has caused stormwater volume beneath the roadway between 9550, 9575, and 9600 Ploof Road to increase faster than the infrastructure can handle.

In early 2025, we hired Ayers Engineering—one of the Southeast’s premier engineering firms—to conduct a study of the area. After reviewing their report, we engaged Brunswick County and were informed that this matter falls under the jurisdiction of NCDOT.

Since August, we’ve been ATTEMPTED regular contact with NCDOT requesting their evaluation and input.

The Issue:

The primary roadway floods during heavy rain because the existing drain pipe is undersized. Based on engineering feedback, the problem can be corrected by installing a larger culvert and clearing several downstream obstructions. This work is essential and should be completed before development begins on further Ploof Road properties.

Our Goal:

Residents and property buyers deserve to know that this section of road experiences significant flooding during major rain events—even though it is NOT located within a 100‑year floodplain. The area should be able to handle heavy rainfall with minimal drainage issues.

Take Action:

Join our mailing list and support our request for NCDOT representatives (Larry King or Daniel Perry) to visit the site and meet with residents, Ayers Engineering and business owners along Ploof Road.

We engaged Ayers Engineering to evaluate the culvert pipe size beneath Ploof Road. This report was a significant investment, and we have made it freely available to anyone interested in this issue.

This aging pipe from the 1970’s is causing the issue.
